Project REBIRTH #7: Gauntlets Moveset

This video was recorded on 13/05/2023. This is the last of my backlog videos, so it's going to be new updates from this point on!


This is the first version of the first new alternate moveset for the player character. Whereas previously it was just the blade, now the player also has access to a hand-to-hand combat style that is faster but softer-hitting. The animations may not be final, after all I'm still improving on my Blender animation skills as we speak.

Originally the plan was for the player to only ever have access to one weapon with the possibility of swapping it out for either a different weapon of the same combat style, or a different style entirely, like how these gauntlets compare to the blade weapon.

But in the process of making this weapon type I've debated whether allowing the player to switch between weapons on the spot might make for more dynamic gameplay. Though that's better saved for a later blog entry. At the very least I'm planning to include two more weapon types, regardless of what I decide.


Also visible in the above video are damage numbers that appear whenever the enemy is struck, which I feel is an important feature to include to allow the player to see the effects their equipped items are having on their damage output.
